Overview
The Osprey has a large rotor at each wingtip. For take-off and landing the engines point upwards like a helicopter's; in flight they tilt forward and it flies like a turboprop aircraft, about twice as fast as a conventional helicopter.
It carries 24 troops for the US Marine Corps and is also used by US special forces and the US Navy. Development was long and costly, with several fatal crashes. Specifications are for the MV-22B; each rotor is 11.6 m across.
