Overview
The An-124 Ruslan was built in the Soviet Union as a strategic military transport and is still one of the largest cargo aircraft in the world. Its nose swings up and its rear has a ramp, so huge loads such as locomotives, helicopters, satellites and power-station turbines can be driven or winched straight in. It can "kneel" by lowering its nose gear to make loading easier.
After the An-225 was destroyed in 2022, the An-124 became the largest aircraft flying regular commercial heavy-cargo charters. Range shown is with about 120 tonnes of cargo.
